Many are the books written on the great mystic and down-to-earth Saint Francis of Assisi, perhaps the most human saint lived on this earth. He had no other joy than following his Master as perfectly as he could. This he achieved through the loving and enduring communion with God. When Francis learned the art of prayer from the Master of prayer par excellence Jesus Christ, he was transformed into a man of prayer, or rather, a master of prayer. It is so because Francis' life of prayer cannot be separated from his day-to-day life. He is counted as not just a man who prayed, but as one who personified prayer. From that spring flowed the streams of peace and joy for himself and through him to all others around him. Thomas Celano rightly summarized the real self of Francis in these words "
